Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) is the federation of national Alzheimer and dementia associations around the world. ADI has grown from four members in 1984 to become a global federation of over 100 national Alzheimer and dementia associations, in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO). Representing people and nations on all continents, ADI is the global voice on dementia.
Dementia Bermuda became a member organisation of the ADI in 2023. Our ADI membership has afforded us invaluable support with our advocacy. We are committed to the development of a National Dementia Plan for Bermuda and see this as an essential part of tackling dementia as a growing healthcare crisis. Dementia Bermuda participated in the ADI’s What’s Your Plan campaign in early 2024 urging the Bermuda government to remember the commitment it made in 2017, when along with all 194 World Health Organization’s (WHO) Member States, Bermuda unanimously adopted the WHO’s Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia with the primary objective of the plan being the creation of a National Dementia Plan. However, Bermuda is yet to uphold their 2017 commitment and thus its promise to provide adequate care and support to those living with dementia, carers and the public.
The ADI holds a conference every other year and is highly worth a visit as it caters to everyone affected by dementia and has fantastic speakers from all over the world. The next global conference of Alzheimer’s Disease International will be hosted in France in April 2026.

AFA provides a robust activities program which is available over zoom. Take a look at their calendar of events and register. It is free and is on Eastern time so only 1 hour behind Bermuda. In addition, the AFA hold numerous educational sessions for both professional caregivers and families.
The Alzheimer’s Society UK
Alzheimer’s Society is a United Kingdom care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers. It operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, while its sister charities Alzheimer Scotland and Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland cover Scotland and the Republic of Ireland respectively.
Alzheimer’s Association of America
The Alzheimer’s Association website is a rich resource designed to inform and educate multiple audiences, including those living with the disease, caregivers, volunteers and professional health care providers.
Content covers everything from the basics of Alzheimer’s to support groups to global research efforts.
